Rerouting 2020 Dog Walk & Woofstock

Dog Walk & Woofstock transforms into a VIRTUAL EVENT amid potential health precautions

This spring the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Wake County (SPCA Wake) is following recommended preventative health precautions of NC health officials, and Governor Roy Cooper, by transforming the annual Dog Walk & Woofstock benefit event, scheduled for Saturday, April 4th into a virtual experience.

While this year’s Dog Walk & Woofstock event will be different than years past, the goal stays the same: to raise money to save thousands of local abandoned pets. By transforming the event into an online virtual experience, the homeless pets will get the life-saving resources they need, and the participant fundraisers will show their commitment to the animals via an online presence.

“With current events, and the spread of COVID-19, there is a lot unknown in the world right now. But at the SPCA we are very adept at working with the unknown” says Darci VanderSlik, SPCA Wake Spokesperson. “We never know what tomorrow will bring, or what animal will need our help next. Because of this, we specialize in being flexible, while continuing this important work.”

The day of the event, April 4 at 7:45 PM, SPCA Wake will live stream a new kind of Dog Walk by having staff walk all of the dogs at our Pet Adoption Center around our torch lit campus. This will be our way of honoring and celebrating the hard work and fundraising efforts of every participant who raised money to help light the path home for pets in North Carolina.

Throughout the day, Dog Walk participants are encouraged to post their own photos or videos, while wearing the official Dog Walk T-shirt and matching pet bandana, using hashtag #SPCAWakeDogWalk, so we can share those throughout the day. From now until the event, we hope every Dog Walk participant will continue to work towards their fundraising goal of saving 1 pet by raising a minimum of $100.

“When thousands of passionate people come together online for a cause they believe in there is an indescribable sense of unity. This virtual event is not something I have to be a part of, it is something I want to be a part of,” says Darci VanderSlik.
